About the author:
John Fadelle started working at Scammell in 1968 and stayed there until the closure in 1988.
He worked in the Experimental Department, then Project and Sales Engineering being appointed as a Service Liaison Engineer.
He subsequently moved to the Drawing office as a design engineer specialising in braking systems and Thornycroft vehicles.
This was followed by a spell in Wolverhampton as a resident engineer on the 4 x2 Crusader. He returned Watford as off-road and military vehicle engineer.
Following the closure of Scammell Lorries John moved to EKA combining contract work with developing military recovery and winch systems for 25 years.
